What is a Lip Flip?
The "Lip Flip" is a quick, subtle procedure that uses a small amount of Botox (usually 4-6 units) injected into the muscle just above the top lip border.
This relaxes the orbicularis oris muscle, causing the upper lip to roll slightly outward ("flip"). This creates the illusion of a fuller, more defined upper lip without actually adding any volume or filler. It's a fantastic entry-level treatment for those curious about lip enhancement but afraid of looking "ducky" or overdone.
Lip Flip vs. Lip Filler
It's important to understand the difference. A Lip Flip does not add volume. It simply relaxes the muscle so more of your natural lip shows.
- Cost: Much lower than filler ($129 flat fee)
- Results: Subtle and temporary (6-8 weeks) vs. Filler (6-12 months)
- Look: Very natural enhancement vs. Volumized pout
- Gummy Smile: Can also correct a gummy smile by preventing the lip from raising too high.
Common Questions
Does it hurt?
It's a quick pinch. The upper lip is sensitive, but the treatment takes seconds. We use tiny insulin needles for maximum comfort.
Will I be able to use a straw?
You might notice it's slightly harder to whistle, spit, or drink through a straw for the first week or two while the muscle relaxes. This is temporary and normal!
How long does it last?
Because the mouth is a high-movement area and the dose is low, Lip Flips typically last 6-8 weeks. Many Knoxville patients schedule it as a quick add-on to their regular Botox appointments.
